COMPARISON OF NEW AND OLD STEEL STRUCTURE CODES FOR DESIGN OF LONG-SPAN ARCH TRUSS STRUCTURE IN CHINA

In recent years, for reducing the impact of PM10 and PM2.5 pollution on the atmospheric environment, the construction of closed material yard is being promoted in China. The Code for Design of Steel Structures (GB 50017-2017) introduced the direct analysis method for stability analysis and design, based on the GB 50017-2003 of first-order elastic analysis method. In this paper, structural design and finite element analysis for a 150-meter-span arch truss steel structure is carried on, to compare the differences between the new and old codes. And it is clarified that if a long-span space frame structure is designed under the new code, steel can be used more reasonably and economically on the premise of meeting the requirements of relevant design codes.
