ABSTRACT:

Owing to its excellent performance, concrete-filled tube (CFT) has being employed in more high-rise buildings. The design of the column-to-beam joint is one of the key issues. Vertical load transferred from beam generates both bending moment and shear force in joint area simultaneously. The paper focused on the vertical loading transferring mechanism caused by shear force in the large dimension CFT column with internal ring plate, which is based on finite-element analysis and validated by the experiments. The analysis reveals that vertical load on beam mainly transfers from the web of beam to steel tube, internal stiff ring, to the concrete in-filled at last. The influence of detailing parameters on the vertical load transferring efficiency including loading share ratio between steel tube and core concrete and the dispreading scope are numerically analyzed. Finally, the design proposal is put forward.
